The Courier: Boozman praises local vaccination efforts

Written by Press Release

April 2, 2021

U.S. Sen. John Boozman visited Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Russellville Thursday to discuss Pope County COVID-19 vaccination efforts with city and county officials.

His visit was part of his “Shots in ARms” tour, where he said he is trying to get an on-the-ground view of the vaccine distribution situation in Arkansas and encourage Arkansans to get vaccines if they are eligible.

“What we’re doing is going throughout the state talking to people from the very top, our administrators, and again all the way down to the people who are actually putting shots in arms thanking for a great job they are doing in Arkansas and making sure they are getting the resources they need to serve as many people as possible.

“The good news is that is going very, very well. Everybody involved is committed to getting Arkansans vaccinated. The reality is that’s the quickest path back to normalcy, so it’s very important.”

Boozman said he toured hospitals, including Saint Mary’s, in October and November and was saddened to see a lot of tired people. Now, some of that burden and strain has been relieved since viruses were created. He called the quick virus rollout a “moon shot.”

“There’s a lot of folks, lots of different kinds of people, who didn’t understand or they didn’t know if they were eligible,” he said. “There is some hesitancy, and we are trying to break that down.
