JONESBORO, Ark. (8/9/23) – A challenging 18-game Sun Belt Conference schedule awaits the Arkansas State men’s basketball team in Bryan Hodgson’s first season at the helm, as the league office announced the 2023-24 conference slate on Wednesday.
The docket features nine home contests and begins Saturday, Dec. 30, leading to the Sun Belt Conference Championship, held March 5-11 in Pensacola, Fla.
A-State opens the conference schedule at Georgia State (Dec. 30) before returning home to First National Bank Arena for four straight games, hosting Georgia Southern (Jan. 4), Old Dominion (Jan. 6), Texas State (Jan. 11) and Louisiana (Jan. 13). Four consecutive road contests follow, with the Scarlet and Black traveling to Southern Miss (Jan. 17), Texas State (Jan. 20), Louisiana (Jan. 25) and ULM (Jan. 27).
Three more home dates against Southern Miss (Jan. 31), ULM (Feb. 3) and James Madison (Feb. 7) precede a home tilt against a MAC foe to be determined as part of the MAC-SBC Challenge on Feb. 10. A-State’s first contest in the two-game challenge is set for Saturday, Nov. 11, at Bowling Green.
Four of A-State’s final six regular-season outings will be spent on the road, with the Red Wolves traveling to Troy (Feb. 15) and South Alabama (Feb. 17) before hosting the Trojans (Feb. 22) and Jaguars (Feb. 24) the following week. The Scarlet and Black then close out the regular season at Coastal Carolina (Feb. 28) and at Appalachian State (March 1).
The 2024 Sun Belt Conference Men’s Basketball Championship is set to begin Tuesday, March 5, and running through Monday, March 11. This season marks the fourth year the tournament will be held in Pensacola, Fla. All 14 teams will qualify for the championship tournament with the winner earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Hodgson’s first roster in Jonesboro features six returnees, including four-year starter Caleb Fields, along with nine newcomers.
