      STATE OF THE PACK LIVE!

We are excited to invite you to join us for a special “State of the Pack Live!” Zoom program Wednesday, Jan. 25, at 5:30 p.m., when I will be joined by some of our coaches and student-athletes to answer submitted questions from our A-State fans, take part in interviews and provide updates about our Athletics Department, sport programs, Red Wolves Foundation and more.

Arkansas State University Chancellor Dr. Todd Shields will also be a featured speaker as part of the program, which will be hosted and moderated by A-State play-by-play broadcaster and “Voice of the Red Wolves” Matt Stolz.  You can register HERE to get the link to join the Zoom-based program, but it will additionally appear on our official Athletics social media accounts.

Attendees can use the registration page to submit any questions they would like reviewed and addressed during the program, time permitting.  We hope you enjoy this latest digital version of State of the Pack, and look forward to seeing you on “State of the Pack Live!” in two weeks.

      FAN SURVEY

We appreciate all our football season ticket holders who have provided us valuable feedback from a football-specific survey we issued back on Dec. 10, but now we would also like to share a Red Wolves Experience Survey available to all fans.  This will allow us to receive more comprehensive feedback as it relates to the overall A-State Athletics experience.  We hope you will take some time to complete this survey to help us collect and review fan preferences.

TICKET RENEWALS INFO, 2023 NEW FOOTBALL SEASON TICKETS

Our Athletics Department announced today that season tickets for our 2023 football campaign are on sale now, and the renewal period for current football, men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball season ticket holders is underway.  Details, including early-renewal incentives and important dates to remember, are available on AStateRedWolves.com.  You can also contact the Red Wolves Foundation at 870-972-2401 for information. Thank you so much for your support.

      2023 FOOTBALL HOME/ROAD OPPONENTS

While our entire 2023 football schedule, including dates, is expected to be announced on or before March 1, the locations and opponents for each of our 12 regular-season games are now set for the upcoming season that will kickoff Sept. 2 at Oklahoma.  Our six home games will include non-conference outings against Memphis and Stony Brook and Sun Belt contests versus Coastal Carolina, Louisiana, Southern Miss and Texas State.

      FOUR-GAME HOME STAND

With a four-game home stand for our men’s basketball team being played this week and next, we want to take this opportunity to remind fans that First National Bank Arena’s red entrances will be unavailable until further notice.  Both the yellow and green entrances will be open while repairs are made to the red entrance, which sustained damage during a winter storm last month.  Our Red Wolves carry an 8-2 home record into the upcoming Sun Belt Conference games, beginning with a 7:00 p.m. matchup tomorrow against Texas State.

      TEAM USA TRIALS

Congrats to true freshman bowler Maggie Thoma on an outstanding performance last week at the Team USA Trials, where she finished 12th overall and seventh among amateurs.  Head coach Justin Kostick and our nationally-ranked women’s bowling team begin their spring schedule Jan. 20 at the Northeast Classic in Deptford, N.J.

      MEN’S GOLF SPRING SCHEDULE

Head coach Mike Hagen and our men’s golf program announced its 2023 spring schedule this week.  Coming off a strong fall campaign, we’re slated to compete in five regular-season events and the Sun Belt Conference Championship while working to earn a seventh NCAA Regional appearance in program history.

      PATRIOT ALL-AMERICA

Selected as one of just 66 participants to compete in the prestigious Patriot All-America Invitational Golf Tournament last month, Olivia Schmidt took advantage of the tremendous opportunity with a 10th-place finish against a field made up of some of the top collegiate golfers in the nation.  Congrats to Oliva!

      GRAND SLAM BANQUET

Our baseball program’s annual Grand Slam Banquet remains set for Feb. 13 at First National Bank Arena.  This year’s program features guest speaker Patrick Renna, who starred as Hamilton “Ham” Porter in The Sandlot. Coach Tommy Raffo and our team look forward to this event every year as the kick-off event for the season.

Make plans to attend and support our baseball program at this great event. Several ticket options are available, and more details are available here.

DEMARIO DAVIS PRO BOWL & WALTER PAYTON MAN OF THE YEAR NOMINEE

Congratulations to A-State Athletics Hall of Honor member and current New Orleans Saints linebacker Demario Davis for his recent selection to the NFL’s Pro Bowl.  He has also been named the Saints’ 2022 Man of the Year, making him the club’s nominee for the NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year Award.

Among his many community-service contributions, Demario and his wife Tamela hosted an open house for the Devoted Dreamers Academy on Jan. 7.  The Davis family was joined by Saints owner Gayle Benson and Saints players Cam Jordan, Tyrann Mathieu and Jameis Winston as they welcomed students and their families to the academy.  The Devoted Dreamers Academy is an engaging program that will provide an opportunity for students to gain greater insights and experience into the world of sports both on and off the field.

      CAMPUS SPOTLIGHT

With the start of spring-semester classes this week, we want to welcome all our Arkansas State University students back to campus!  The A-State Student Activities Board (SAB) has some great events planned surrounding the start of the semester, which will also see A-State host a Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration Jan. 15-19.  “Together; We can be the dream” is the theme of a week of activities planned in conjunction with the Northeast Arkansas Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, according to Dr. Lonnie Williams, vice chancellor of the Division of Diversity, Inclusion and Community Engagement.

      GET YOUR WOLVES UP!

This week’s #WolvesUp photos feature A-State political science students and Professor Jordan Butcher with Senator John Boozman during a tour of the U.S. Capitol earlier this month.  They also met with Doug Coutts, Chief of Staff for Senator Tom Cotton, during the tour.

A second #WolvesUp photo features the Jonesboro Visual and Performing Arts School Little Dribblers, who performed at halftime of our men’s basketball game on Dec. 14, with Howl at First National Bank Arena.

Remember to use the hashtag #WolvesUp in your social posts and tweet your photos to me @JeffPurinton if you have any pictures with your Wolves Up! or promoting A-State.  We will select photos to feature in each edition of State of the Pack.
