JONESBORO, Ark. (10/20/21) – Scarlet outscored Black 50-31 in the second half on Wednesday night at First National Bank Arena en route to a 73-63 victory in Arkansas State men’s basketball’s intrasquad scrimmage.
Much of that comeback came through the sharpshooting of Malcom Farrington and Marquis Eaton, who both led Scarlet with 18 points apiece. Fifteen of Farrington’s 18 points came in the second half, while Eaton notched 13 of his 18 points in the second 16-minute half.
Norchad Omier did what he does best, recording a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 14 rebounds and 5 blocked shots. Keyon Wesley tallied 11 points while Caleb London registered 7 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. As a team, Scarlet shot 56.0 percent (28 of 50) from the floor and 47.8 percent (11 of 23) from beyond the arc.
Desi Sills led the Black squad with 33 points in just under 19 ½ minutes, connecting on 12 of 19 shots including 3 of 5 from three. Christian Willis and Lazar Grbovic each led Black with 6 boards apiece.
Black came out of the gates hot, leading by as much as 14 up 30-16, but Scarlet battled back late with a 7-2 run to end the half to make it a 32-23 margin at the break.
Scarlet took the lead early in the second half, opening on a 16-5 run that included five straight points from London. Black took the lead one last time on a Markise Davis jumper, but then Scarlet took control and held on for the 10-point victory.
A-State opens its 2021-22 season with an exhibition contest at 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 1, hosting Blue Mountain College. The regular season opens Tuesday, Nov. 9, versus Harding inside First National Bank Arena.
