DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (4/17/23) – Posting a second consecutive 8-over par 296, the Arkansas State women’s golf team is third of 13 teams heading into the final round of the 2023 Sun Belt Women’s Golf Championship contested at LPGA International Hills Course.
A-State posted a second consecutive 8-over par 296 marking just the sixth time since at least 1997 to post a 296 or lower at the conference championship. Totaling 16-over par 592 thus far, the Red Wolves have their lowest 36-hole total at the SBC Championship in program history. ULM has totaled 8-over par 584 to hold the 36-hole lead with Texas State second at 11-over par 587. Georgia Southern (+18), South Alabama (+26), Troy (+27), James Madison (+27), Georgia State (+27), Old Dominion (+29), Southern miss (+34), Marshall (+45), Coastal Carolina (+46) and Appalachian State (+61) round out the team standings.
Turning in the low round of the day at 3-under par 69, Schmidt posted her 46th career par or better round climbing the leaderboard to a tie for second. She carded four birdies in the opening eight holes, including consecutive birdies on the sixth, seventh and eighth holes. Her only blemish in the round was a bogey on the par-3 15th. Totaling 2-under par 142 thus far, Schmidt has the lowest 36-hole total at the SBC Championship by an A-State player in program history. Entering the final round, Schmidt is one stroke off the individual lead held by Leah Onosato of Old Dominion.
Coming off a tough opening round 9-over par 81, Charlotte Menager bounced back with a 2-over par 74 and stands tied for 39th. Morgan Beaulieu totaled 4-over par 76 in the second round and is tied for 35th at 10-over par 154. Elise Schultz was 5-over par 77 in the second round, but remains inside the top-10 with a total of 3-over par 147 to stand seventh. Casey Sommer joins Menager in a tie for 39th at 11-over par 155.
