DEPTFORD, N.J. (1/21/23) – The Arkansas State women’s bowling team carries an 8-2 record into the final day of the Northeast Classic hosted by Sacred Heart University, but stands seventh among 33 teams in total pinfall.
A-State (28-10) posted a 4-1 record in the five traditional matches Saturday rolling 4,988 pins. The Red Wolves have 10,006 pins through 10 games for an average of 200.1 and are 38 pins behind Youngstown State for sixth. Vanderbilt leads in total pinfall with 10,472 (209.4) followed by McKendree (10,355), Nebraska (10,314), Stephen F. Austin (10,247) and Maryville (10,103).
The Red Wolves opened the day against host Sacred Heart and came away with a 1,043-977 victory with Karli Vanduinen leading the way with a game of 242. Led by a 222 from Faith Welch in game two, A-State topped Saint Francis 1,030-827 and followed it up with a 1,010-879 win over Mercyhurst paced by Vanduinen’s 246. The Red Wolves came up short in game four against Duquesne, 997-960, with a 238 by Maggie Thoma pacing the squad. A-State closed the day with a 945-772 decision against Wagner with Thoma leading the way with a 215.
Vanduinen led the Red Wolves dropping 1,037 pins for an average of 207.40. In the individual rankings, Vanduinen was 22nd with Chloe Skurzynski of Stephen F. Austin pacing the field with 1,156 (231.20). Emma Stull bowled all five games and downed 1,020 pins to rank 34th while Brooklyn Buchanan was 72nd with 935 pins. Welch bowled two games and led A-State with an average of 213 pins while Thoma bowled the last three games and averaged 210.67.
