STRUTHERS, Ohio (10/16/22) – Rallying from a 2-0 deficit in a Baker best-of-seven match against Duquesne, the Arkansas State women’s bowling team came back to defeat Duquesne 4-2 and place third at the Penguin Classic hosted by Youngstown State.

 

A-State wrapped up the tournament 10-4, going 4-0 Sunday. In the final three traditional matches that took place Sunday, the Red Wolves defeated Walsh (980-793), Saint Francis (1,027-849) and Aurora (885-811). A-State was third in total pinfall and faced Duquesne in the third place Baker best-of-seven match for final placing.

 

Duquesne took the opening two games, 184-179 and 256-194, but the Red Wolves rallied back to win the next four. The comeback began with a 186-169 win in game three and back-to-back 215 games gave the Red Wolves a 3-2 advantage. A-State closed out Duquesne with a 251-177 tally in game six of the series to win 4-2.

 

Sarah Sanes led A-State in two of the three traditional matches Sunday, rolling 266 pins against Walsh and 255 against Saint Francis. Brooklyn Buchanan had a game-high 193 to lead A-State in the final traditional match against Aurora. Sanes totaled 1,721 pins in eight traditional matches, an average of 215.13, to earn All-Tournament Team honors. Buchanan was ninth in the individual pinfall standings downing 1,642 pins (205.25).

 

A-State returns to the lanes next weekend (Oct. 21-23) in Fairview Heights, Ill., for the Bearcat Open hosted by McKendree.
