
LAREDO, Texas (2/25/20) – The Arkansas State men’s golf team surged to the lead late in the final round at the Border Olympics before finishing second in the tournament contested at Max Mandel Municipal Golf Course.
Heading into the last three holes, the Red Wolves were 7-under for the day and led ULM by one stroke. A-State finished the round at 3-under (285) to finish second among the 17-team field while defeating all five top-100 ranked teams in the field. ULM won the event at 3-under after a final round 289 (+1). The Red Wolves were two strokes clear of third-place Sam Houston State (+1) while Campbell (+5), UTSA (+5) and No. 35 Houston (+5) tied for fourth.
Senior Zan Luka Stirn finished with the low round of the day, going 5-under (67) to move up 11 spots for a second-place finish overall at 211 (-5). Freshman Adam Thorp was even-par on the round to finish tied for fifth at 213 (-3) giving the Red Wolves two finishers inside the top-five. Freshman Michael Weppernig finished tied for 20th at 219 (+3), senior Julien Sale was tied for 26th at 220 (+4) and Jack Madden finished tied for 49th at 225 (+9). Freshman Connor Wilson competed as an individual and finished tied for 40th at 223 (+7).

The Red Wolves at 71-11 on the season return to action at the Tiger Invitational, March 7-10, in Opelika, Ala.
