DANIEL ISLAND, S.C. (10/31/23) – The Arkansas State men’s golf team closed its fall schedule tied for sixth place at the Daniel Island Intercollegiate that concluded Tuesday at the Ralston Course.
A-State was 2-over 290 in the final round to total 2-over 866 (302-274-290) for the tournament to tie Coastal Carolina for sixth. Middle Tennessee won the event at 10-under 854 with VCU (-8), ULM (-6), South Carolina (-5) and Stetson (-4) comprising the top five.
Pierce Johnson was the top finisher for A-State totaling 1-under par 215 (76-64-75) for the event to tie for 12th. Thomas Schmidt tied for 15th at even par 216 (74-68-74) and Chris Somerfield used a 2-under par 70 to move up to a tie for 29th at 2-over 218 (78-70-70). Jack Maxey tied for 35th with a total of 3-over 219 (74-72-73) and Hugo Ronnberg tied for 65th with a total of 12-over 228 (79-76-73).
A-State completes the fall slate with a scoring average of 283.27, on pace to break the program record of 285.91 set in the 2018-19 season. The Red Wolves begin the spring schedule Feb. 26-28 at the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate at Reflection Bay Golf Club in Henderson, Nev.
