
JONESBORO, Ark. (2/6/21) – Opening the spring schedule, the Arkansas State women’s tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision to Central Arkansas Saturday afternoon at the College Tennis Showcase hosted by RidgePointe Country Club.
Thea Rice won the only point of the day for A-State (0-1) in a three-set match at No. 1 singles’ against Chunxi Xin. Rice dropped the first set, 3-6, but rallied for a 6-0, 6-0 in the next two to take the win.
In other singles’ court competition, Fuka Nonoyama downed Jill Morse 6-1, 6-0 on court two, while Shelby King fell to Yada Vasupongchai 6-1, 6-1 on court three. Yasmine Humbert lost to Jaeun Lee 6-2, 3-6, 3-6 on court five, while Nejla Zukic’s and Amelia Guevremont’s matches went unfinished.

The Bears took the doubles’ point with victories in the second and third matches. Rice and Zukic paired up for a 6-3 victory in the first matchup, but UCA pairs defeated King and Guevremont 6-3 and Morse and Rebecca Brody 6-4.
