MARICOPA, Ariz. (5/20/23) – The Arkansas State men’s golf team continued play at the National Golf Invitational Saturday at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Course and stands 12th following a second-round 3-over par 291.
Playing in the inaugural postseason event, the Red Wolves are one stroke behind George Washington for 11th and two strokes back of Valparaiso for 10th. A-State is seven strokes back of eighth-place Troy while Washington State is ninth at 5-over par. Texas State surged to the 36-hole lead with an 8-under par 280 to lead with a total of 11-under par 565. Wyoming (-7), Utah Valley (-5), Ball State (-3) and Stetson (-2) round out the top five.
Highlighted by an ace on the par-3, 170-yard, fourth Pierce Johnson turned in an even-par round joining Thomas Schmidt with the low round of the day among A-State players. Schmidt and Devyn Pappas are tied for 19th individual with a two-day total of even-par 144. Johnson is tied for 43rd at 4-over par 148 while Jack Madden (+5) is tied for 49th and Jack Maxey (+10) is tied for 61st.
