STARKVILLE, Miss. (3/25/23) – Arkansas State track and field athletes combined for 11 top-five finishes on Saturday to cap off a strong weekend at the Al Schmidt Bulldog Relays to commence the 2023 outdoor campaign.
Five athletes won their respective events, as A-State totaled 28 top-five results in the three-day event.
Jacob Pyeatt claimed the men’s 1500 meters, clocking a personal-best time of 3:54.45 to become A-State’s first event winner of the day.
Colby Eddowes captured the men’s 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.83 that is sixth in program history. Patryk Baran placed eighth with a mark of 14.58.
A-State boasted the top two finishers in both the women’s and men’s shot put. Evangelynn Harris uncorked a throw of 16.26m (53-4.25) to best her mark that ranked second in school history, while Selase Sampram moved up to fourth all-time with a toss of 15.44m (50-8.0).
Jacob Tracy took the top spot in the men’s shot put, launching a career-best throw of 17.29m (56-8.75) to rank eighth in the event at A-State. Willem Coertzen finished just a centimeter behind, placing second with a mark of 17.28m (56-8.5).
Bradley Jelmert won the men’s pole vault with a clearance of 5.35m (17-6.5) for his third straight event title dating back to indoor season. Lauren Beauchamp and Avery Shell tied for third in the women’s pole vault with a height of 3.80m (12-5.5).
Izzy Daines placed fifth in the women’s javelin with a throw of 40.66m (133-4).
A pair of sprinters recorded personal-best times in the women’s 100 meters, with Carly Strong finishing in 12.16 and Hannah Morris clocking a time of 12.23.
The Red Wolves finished fifth in the men’s 4×400-meter relay with a time of 3:23.20.
NEXT UP
Arkansas State returns to action Friday and Saturday in a pair of meets. On Friday, several A-State athletes will compete at the WashU Distance Carnival in St. Louis, Mo., while others will compete Saturday at the Blazer Invite in Birmingham, Ala.
