MARICOPA, Ariz. (5/19/23) – The Arkansas State men’s golf team began play at the National Golf Invitational Friday at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Course and stands 13th following an opening round 6-over par 294.
Playing in the inaugural postseason event, the Red Wolves are two strokes behind George Washington for 12th while Stetson is 11th at 2-over par 290. Wyoming holds the 18-hole lead at 8-under par 280 with Penn State (-7), Washington State (-5), Texas State (-3) and Troy (-3) rounding out the top five.
Devyn Pappas paced the Red Wolves with a 1-under par 71 to tie for 18th among the 65 players. Thomas Schmidt birdied six consecutive holes to finish off an even-par round of 72 and is tied for 27th. Jack Madden (+3) is tied for 49th, Jack Maxey (+4) is tied for 53rd and Pierce Johnson (+4) is tied for 53rd.
A-State begins its second round at 8:53 a.m. (PT) off the 10th tee. Live scoring is available on Golfstat.com.
