BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas (10/15/22) – Jacob Pyeatt placed ninth in the men’s 8K on Saturday morning at the Arturo Barrios Invitational at the Watts Cross Country Course, helping Arkansas State men’s cross country to a fourth-place team finish.
The Mountain Home, Ark., native clocked a personal-best 24:03.3 as the Red Wolves totaled 238 points to finish as the third-best team out of the South Central Region in the 40-team field. A-State’s women placed just outside of the top 10 in the team standings, placing 11th out of 38 squads in their first 6K of the year.
Ethan Mychajlonka was the second Red Wolf to cross the line in the men’s race, placing 39th with a career-best 24:41.3. Rylan Brown clocked a personal-best time of 24:54.0 in a 59th-place result, while Grayson Young crossed in 25:02.5 to place 72nd. Nathan Herbst finished two spots behind Young, placing 74th with a season-best mark of 25:05.1.
Nati Enright (111th – 25:26.1), Cash Kunkel (115th – 25:27.4) and Andrew Mason (286th – 27:38.7) also raced, but did not score.
Jaybe Shufelberger led A-State’s women’s team, placing 24th with a time of 21:11.4. Sophie Leathers followed in 47th with a time of 21:43.4 with Elizabeth Martin crossing not far behind, placing 50th and running a personal-best 21:44.8. Freshman Ann-Marie Braese was the fourth runner to cross the finish line in 22:04.8, while Cadence Lapp rounded out A-State’s scorers with a 92nd-place result and time of 22:23.0.
Also running but not scoring were Sarah Trammel (114th – 22:40.2), Emma Hurlbut (143rd – 23:04.1), Maggie Hunter (167th – 23:22.6) and Anna Hunter (23:23.7).
