JONESBORO, Ark. (10/10/22) – Arkansas State men’s golf junior Devyn Pappas is atop the individual leaderboard at 8-under par and the Red Wolves hold the team lead at 16-under par after two rounds of the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate at RidgePointe Country Club.

 

The Red Wolves turned in back-to-back rounds of 8-under par 280 to total 560 on the day. A-State led the field with 47 birdies and added one eagle on the day. A-State holds an eight-stroke lead over second place Oklahoma Christian (-8) while Belmont (-1) is third. Valparaiso (+4) and Texas A&M-Commerce (+16) round out the 11-team field.

 

Pappas is among six Red Wolves in the six players in the top 15 individually. Pappas posted a career best 5-under par 67 in the first round and followed with a 3-under par 69 in the second round for a career-best 36-hole total of 136 (-8). Pierce Johnson is two strokes back of Pappas in second place, turning in a first round 5-under par 67 and a second round 1-under par 71. Thomas Schmidt is tied for fourth with a total of 140 (-4) carding an even-par 72 in the first round and a 4-under par 68 for the second.

 

Defending Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate individual medalist Jack Madden is tied for sixth at 3-under par 141 (69-72) after 36 holes. Luka Naglic is tied for 11th at 1-under par 143 (72-71) and Felix Krammer is tied for 13th at even-par 144 (71-73) to round out the six A-State players inside the top 15, all of which are even-par or better. Jack Maxey is tied for 22nd at 3-over par 147 (75-72) and Dennis Staykov is tied for 40th at 152 (79-73).

 

The third and final round of the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate begins at 7:45 a.m. with tee times off No. 1 and No. 10. Tee times begin at 8:09 a.m. on No. 10 for Staykov, Krammer and Johnson while Maxey leads off the round at the first tee at 8:41 a.m. for the five scored A-State players in the team standings.
