Jordan Peele’s science fiction thriller took in $44 million in its box office debut, easily leading the domestic charts and impressively landing one of the biggest opening weekends in years for a film that’s not based on existing intellectual property.

Well, it’s about two siblings who run a California horse ranch and they discover something wonderful and sinister in the skies above, while the owner of an adjacent theme park tries to profit from the mysterious otherworldly phenomenon. It’s described a horror/sci-fi movie and a Western UFO. Here’s the director and writer of Nope, Jordan Peele:

“Hard to know how to talk about the genesis without giving anything away. But I felt there was this vacuum of where a movie that I wish existed, where it didn’t exist. And that was the big horror UFO film. And so I felt I had a sort of responsibility in some ways to take that on. And the idea and the concept and the plot started from there.”

Jordan has definitely redefined the genre of horror films. We will see if the popularity of his style continues with Nope. And, yes, you will hear from the cast later on this week.
