One of the goals of the New Groove @ 2 segment on The Weekend Groove is to expose our listeners to new music. Especially if the music is from artists we’ve never been exposed to. International R&B superstar AGNEZ MO’s latest single “Patience” is this week’s new groove!

AGNEZ MO ‘Patience’ Came from Patience

AGNEZ MO may be a new artist on KLEK, but she is by no means a newbie.

MO has had a long career in music–20 years in fact. During that time she has worked with various artists, many of which you have heard of (see the list below). Over that time, MO has gained a huge following of fans.

However, it was in 2017 that she released her international debut album X which really catapulted her to international music stardom. However, after that album, MO told Popsugar that she needed some time to herself.

“I think that’s what I needed [because] now I’m here,” MO said, “as a better artist, better writer, better person.”

During that break, she also developed the song “Patience”, who MO told in the same 2022 Popsugar interview that the song is also about people exercising patience when starting a new relationship.

“I wanted to normalize taking the time before rushing into anything,” said MO, “It should be OK to take the time to get to know each other.”

No Patience Need for the Video

AGNEZ MO’s “Patience” was released for streaming on February 11, 2022. At the same time, her label released the visualization for the single.

In the video, you can see MO trying to exercise caution, as if she’s mulling over whether to progress on with her significant other, but not in a “we-need-to-break-up” sort of way. You can definitely feel the anguish and fear that she has in trying to make the decision whether or not to take the relationship in a new direction.

The video was directed by MO and Danny “Topshelf Junior” Williams. Williams has also worked on music videos for artists such as Jhené Aiko and Tank. IMDB shows his last work was for a video Aiko did for the song “Happiness Over Everything (H.O.E.)” which was a collaboration with Future and Miguel.

      A Little About AGNEZ MO

AGNEZ MO, or Agnes Monica Muljoto, hails from Jakarta, Indonesia. MO is a HUGE start in her home country. According to her profile on Spotify, she has won numerous awards, including 8 Panasonic Awards, 5 Nickelodeon Indonesia Kids’ Choice Awards, and 4 MTV Indonesia Awards. Along with other accolades, she’s known as the most awarded artist in Asia with over 350 awards and counting.

MO released her first studio album back in 2003, And the Story Goes, under her birth name “Agnes Monica” and in her country. She started to branch out and become a international name with the release of X in 2017, her fifth studio album.

She has worked with many American artist since then, including Chris Brown, Megan Thee Stallion, and T.I. MO is also an activist, being an anti-drug ambassador in Asia and the brand ambassador for MTV EXIT which works to combat human trafficking.

Can you relate to this new groove?
