HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (3/12/23) – Closing out the first weekend of conference play, the Arkansas State women’s tennis team was swept 7-0 at Marshall Sunday morning.
A-State (1-7, 0-2) dropped the doubles point to begin the match. Sarah Millard and Sofia Vdovychenko were swept 6-0 at No. 1 doubles and Anna Borovinskaya and Rebecca Brody dropped a 6-3 decision on court two to decide the point. Yasmine Humbert and Abigail Thurmer trailed 5-2 on court three when the point was clinched.
Marshall (7-4, 2-0) gained a 2-0 advantage in the match with Johanna Storm downing Brody in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, on court two. Thurmer lost 6-1, 6-0 to Doroteja Joksovic on court three and Millard fell 6-3, 6-1 on court one to give the needed 4-0 lead to clinch the match. Playing out the remaining matches, Rieke Gillar defeated Borovinskaya 6-4, 6-1, while Vdovychenko came up short to Gabrielle Clairotte 6-4, 6-2. Humbert dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Andjela Lopicic to set the final score of 7-0.
