Lindy’s Sports Tabs Nine A-State Football Standouts Preseason All-Sun Belt
JONESBORO, Ark. (6/7/18) – The Arkansas State football team has placed nine players on Lindy’s Sports Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference Team, including senior quarterback Justice Hansen as the publication’s pick for the league’s Most Valuable Player.
The Red Wolves’ nine selections, including four first-team picks, were the second most in the conference behind only Troy’s 10. Representing A-State on the first team were Hansen, senior offensive lineman Lanard Bonner, senior defensive end Ronheen Bingham and senior defensive back Justin Clifton.
Earning second team honors for the Red Wolves were senior running back Warren Wand, senior wide receiver Justin McInnis, sophomore center Jacob Still, junior safety B.J. Edmonds and junior punter Cody Grace.
Lindy’s also listed Arkansas State as its favorite to win the Sun Belt Conference’s West Division in 2018 ahead of Louisiana-Monroe, South Alabama, Louisiana and Texas State, in that order. The Red Wolves came in at No. 57 on the magazine’s national rankings.
A-State had three players among Lindy’s “Top 10 NFL Talent” in the Sun Belt, including Hansen at No. 2, Bonner at No. 3 and Clifton at No. 9. Hansen’s name also appeared twice in the Sun Belt “Honor Roll” section as the “Most Accurate Passer” and “Coolest in the Clutch.”
Additionally, the 2017 Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Year is listed by the publication as the No. 3 rated quarterback among the Group of Five and No. 21 in the nation.
Arkansas State has won five of the last seven Sun Belt Conference championships and appeared in a school-record seven consecutive bowl games. The Red Wolves are set to open their 2018 campaign at Centennial Bank Stadium on Sept. 1, when they will host Southeast Missouri State before hitting the road one week later for a game in Tuscaloosa against defending national champion Alabama.
