KLEK, City of Jonesboro to Celebrate National Volunteer Week

Written by Press Release

April 10, 2021

KLEK 102.5 FM and the City of Jonesboro are partnering together honor and show gratitude to all volunteers in the city during National Volunteer Week, April 18-24, 2021.

During the week, KLEK will spotlight members of the community making a difference during episodes of Community Conversations, hosted by Qubilah Jones.  Jonesboro Mayor Harold Copenhaver and other city government officials are also expected to come on the show to express messages of gratitude to volunteers.  Community Conversations airs Mondays – Fridays at 9 A.M on 102.5 FM.  It is also streamed live on KLEK’s Facebook page and is available on KLEK’s YouTube channel (both platforms are @klekfm).

“We want the city to rally behind this project to shine a light on Jonesboro; to show how our volunteers rock,” said Jones, who also serves as KLEK’s Community Outreach Coordinator.  “We also want to highlight how vital volunteers are to organizations that can’t afford full time staff.”

The week will also be recognized on social media through a hashtag campaign.  KLEK encourages anyone who is performing a kind act during the week to post about it, adding #VolunteersMatterJB and #WhyIVolunteerJB to the posts.

According to the volunteer organization Points of Light, National Volunteer Week has been celebrated since 1974 as a way to recognize volunteers and their impacts on surrounding communities.  This year, the campaign will also be celebrated online using #NVW and #LocalLight.  More details about how this years celebration in Jonesboro will be conducted are available by contacting Quibila Jones, at (870) 203-9951.
