LAWRENCE, Kan. (8/31/23) – The Arkansas State women’s soccer team faced a barrage of shots from Kansas Thursday night and the Jayhawks defeated the Red Wolves 3-0 at Rock Chalk Park.
Kansas (3-0-2) took an early lead just 1:58 into the contest. A quick touch in the box found the foot of Lexi Watts and Watts tucked the ball inside the post for the early marker. On a corner kick in the 10th minute, the Jayhawks nearly tacked on another goal, but McKenzie Robinson made the stop for a team save to preserve the 1-0 deficit.
A-State (1-2-1) was inches from an equalizer in the 50th minute. Taking a free kick just outside the box, Sarah Strong rocketed the ball toward the right post, but the shot clanked off the post. Two minutes later, Kansas added an insurance tally to lead 2-0. The Jayhawks tacked on a third goal in the 77th minute to set the final margin.
Kansas finished with a 24-3 shots advantage, placing 12 on goal. Damaris Deschaine tallied eight saves for A-State while Melania Pasar of Kansas stopped the only shot on goal she faced.
A-State plays its next four matches at home beginning Sunday against Southeastern Louisiana. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
