DANIEL ISLAND, S.C. (10/30/23) – Pierce Johnson turned in a career-low 8-under 64 to help the Arkansas State men’s golf team surge up the leaderboard eight spots to eighth among 18 teams after 36 holes of the Daniel Island Intercollegiate at the Ralston Creek Course.
Starting on the back nine, Johnson was 3-under and went 5-under on the front nine to card his career-low round of 8-under 64, tied for the second-lowest round in program history. After opening the tournament at 4-over 76, Johnson was bogey-free Monday and climbed 59 spots to a tie for seventh at 4-under 140 (76-64), four back of Kevin Jegers of Middle Tennessee for the individual lead.
With a 4-under 68 round Monday, Thomas Schmidt moved up 31 spots on the individual leaderboard to a tie for 14th at 2-under 142 (74-68). Jack Maxey is tied for 32nd with a total of 146 (74-72), Chris Somerfield is tied for 47th with a total of 148 (78-70) and Hugo Ronnberg is tied for 78th with a total of 155 (79-76) to round out the Red Wolves individually.
Posting the low team round of the day at 14-under 274 Monday, the Red Wolves are at even-par 576 (302-274) for the event. A-State moved up eight spots to eighth, eight strokes back of Middle Tennessee (-8) for the team lead. South Carolina (-7), VCU (-5), Coastal Carolina (-3), ULM (-3), Stetson (-3) and College of Charleston (-1) make up the other six teams ahead of A-State.
