JONESBORO, Ark. (4/16/23) – Georgia State topped the Arkansas State women’s tennis team 4-3 Sunday in the home finale at the A-State Tennis Courts.
A-State (2-16, 0-10 Sun Belt) won the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead. Court three was a win by default for the Red Wolves and Sarah Millard and Sofia Vdovychenko clinched the point with a 6-3 win on court one. Yasmine Humbert and Rebecca Brody trailed 5-4 on court two at the time the doubles point was clinched.
Georgia State (2-16, 2-7 Sun Belt) did not have players in the four or five positions of the lineup resulting in a 3-0 lead for A-State by default. Millard took an early lead on court one against Maria Paredes, but fell 2-6, 7-6 (1), 6-1. Brody came up short on court two 6-2, 6-3, against Michelle Ncube and Vdovychenko dropped her match against Aelixa Alvarez 6-4, 6-3 on court three. Pragnya Kumar added a fourth singles tally for the Panthers topping Abigail Thurmer 6-0, 6-3 on court four.
