JONESBORO, Ark. (4/9/23) – Closing out a pair of conference matches at home this weekend, the Arkansas State women’s tennis team was swept by Georgia Southern 7-0 Sunday at the A-State Tennis Courts.
A-State (1-14, 0-8 Sun Belt) was swept in the doubles point to get the match underway. The Georgia Southern (15-4, 6-2 Sun Belt) No. 1 pair topped Sarah Millard and Sofia Vdovychenko 6-2 while Rebecca Brody and Yasmine Humbert came up short 6-4 on court two. Anna Borovinskaya and Abigail Thurmer were defeated on court three 6-1.
The Eagles won each of the singles matches in straight sets to take the match 7-0. Vdovychenko dropped her match on court three to Nanaka Kijima 6-0, 6-0 while Thurmer fell to Lindsay Tulenko 6-2, 6-0 on court four. Silvia Martinez topped Millard 6-1, 6-0 on court one and Humbert was downed 6-2, 6-3 by Ninon Martinache on court five. Borovinskaya battled in the first set, but fell 7-5, 6-0 to Paula Hijos on court six while Brody also came up short in the first set 7-5 before yielding 6-1 in the second set on court two against Ana Tsitavets.
