FREE JETS Rides Thursday June 21st!

JET transportation is free Thursday

JET bus travel is free Thursday, June 21, in honor of National Dump the Pump Day.

Transit agencies all over the nation are giving free rides in an effort to attract residents who normally don’t ride the bus. The goal is for everyone to experience public transit to determine whether they want to incorporate it into their routines.

“It’s also a day of conservation – conserving fuel,” said JET Director Michael Black, who added that ridership spiked on the free date last year. “We had close to 700 riders, and a typical Thursday would be 450 to 500.”

Overall, ridership has continued to grow on JET buses, which began Saturday routes last month.

“One day last week we did have 608, so we’re seeing a lot of summer use,” Black said. “I don’t anticipate a double-digit growth over last year, because we grew at 18 percent last year. But we are about 3 percent over last year so far this year.”
