Events to Kick Off ‘Welcome Week’ for Students Returning for Spring Semester

January 8, 2021

JONESBORO – As students return to Arkansas State University to begin the spring semester for 2021, the Student Activities Board has organized a group of welcoming events for the week.

A-State plans to follow the Return to Learn plan that was initiated prior to the fall 2020 semester due to COVID-19. Spring semester classes will begin Tuesday, Jan. 12.
“We ask returning students stop by the Student Activities Board table at 11 a.m. on Jan. 12 for a morning full of giveaways and warm welcome backs,” said Emily Hope, assistant dean of students and Student Activities Board adviser. “We are excited to have our students return to campus.”

The board is presenting a virtual organization fair, Tuesday, Jan. 12, through Friday, Jan.15.  Student organizations are asked to post information in the “Explore Our Student Orgs” tile of the A-State Student App and students can visit that to learn how to get involved on campus.

Welcome Week also includes several Student Activities Board-sponsored events, including:

— Tuesday, Jan. 12: Welcome Back Table from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. This will include aromatherapy jars, t-shirts, free drink vouchers for Starbucks, and a few other fun items.

— Thursday, Jan. 14: SAB will host a “Popular TV Series” trivia night in the Carl R. Reng Student Union, Centennial Hall, at 6 p.m. The first 100 students will be eligible to play and the top three winners will receive Amazon gift cards.

— Friday, Jan. 15: SAB will host “Virtual Cell Phone Smackdown” at 8 p.m. that will give students the opportunity to participate virtually to win money. This game is similar to trivia. Students are also encouraged to check into the men’s Sun Belt Conference basketball game against Louisiana-Monroe at 6 p.m. at First National Bank Arena Friday evening.

The following week on Thursday, Jan. 21, SAB is hosting a drive-in movie where students can enjoy the film “Knives Out” starting at 7 p.m. at the Tomlinson Stadium-Kell Field parking lot on Olympic Drive.
