Cotton, Van Hollen Applaud Inclusion of ZTE Amendment in NDAA
Washington, D.C. — Senators Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas) and Chris Van Hollen (D-Maryland) today applauded the inclusion of their amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act responding to the national-security threat posed by Chinese telecom companies like Huawei and ZTE.
“The threat Huawei and ZTE pose to our national security is too great to ignore. This amendment will help keep Americans’ private information out of the hands of the Chinese Communist Party, and I’m pleased it will be included in the NDAA,” said Senator Cotton.
“ZTE has repeatedly violated U.S. law and represents a threat to our national security – Congress cannot and will not allow the Administration to let ZTE off the hook in the interest of Chinese jobs. I’m pleased that our bipartisan proposal will be included in the manager’s amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act, and I appreciate my colleagues on both sides of the aisle working together to protect American interests and national security,” said Senator Van Hollen.
Cotton and Van Hollen introduced the amendment last week. Click here<www.cotton.senate.gov/?p=press_release&id=958> for additional background.
