I’m old school. I hate to admit it, but I rarely get excited about new music. What can I say, I’m a 90’s kid: I was there when Jodeci, Boyz II Men, Snoop and 2Pac were new artists dropping new, groundbreaking music. Call me old, but today’s music–at least in the R&B world–doesn’t even come close to our jams from back in day.
But today I got a little excited.
Behold, Beyoncés version of 1981 soul classic from Maze and Frankie Beverly, “Before I Let Go.” You’re gonna want to turn this up.

It’s hard for anyone to do justice to Frankie’s original, but we loved this one. It still holds on to the original foundations of the song, with just enough of a new twist to make it fresh.
Beyoncé surprise-released the song today, that serves as both the closing credits song to her new Netflix documentary/concert film Homecoming and a studio bonus track to her unannounced companion LP Homecoming: The Live Album.
