JONESBORO, Ark. (8/7/20) – For the second consecutive championship, Arkansas State men’s golf will be represented as senior Zan Luka Stirn is set to compete in the 120th U.S. Amateur beginning Monday at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Ore.
The tournament is scheduled to begin with 18-hole, stroke play competition on Monday and Tuesday with 88 pairings of three before the field is trimmed and match play begins on Wednesday with 64 advancing golfers. The U.S. Amateur will be completed on Sunday with a 36-hole championship match. GOLF Channel and NBCUniversal’s new streaming service Peacock are combining for five days of live tournament coverage.
Before the 2019-20 season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Stirn played in his 40th career tournament with the Red Wolves. Stirn, currently ranked No. 79 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR), has a career scoring average of 72.71. He has five career wins, including the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate this past season, and 14 top-five finishes.

Senior Julien Sale, ranked No. 93 in the WAGR, played in the U.S. Amateur at Pinehurst last season and tied for 19th (+2) in stroke play and advanced to the round of 32 in match play. Sale was qualified for the 2020 U.S. Amateur, but was unable to compete due to COVID-19 travel restrictions ahead of the tournament.
Due to the college golf season ending abruptly because of the COVID-19 outbreak, Stirn and Sale both received an additional season of eligibility from the NCAA and will return this fall to compete for the Red Wolves.
