JONESBORO, Ark. (3/9/23) – A national stage awaits Arkansas State track and field’s Camryn Newton-Smith, who is set to compete in the pentathlon at the NCAA Indoor Championships Friday in Albuquerque, N.M.
Held at the Albuquerque Convention Center, Newton-Smith gets underway at approximately 10:50 a.m. CT in the 60-meter hurdles portion. The five-event competition is slated to conclude at 4:40 p.m. with the 800 meters.
The meet will be broadcasted live on ESPN+ and live results are available here.
Newton-Smith enters the 16-athlete field with the second-highest score in the NCAA – a school-record and Sun Belt Conference-record 4,356 points. She trails national leader Jadin O’Brien of Notre Dame (4,377 points) by just 21 points.
The Greenbank, Australia, native is making her second trip to Albuquerque for the championships – the first coming in the canceled 2020 championships. She is just the fourth A-State woman to qualify for the national meet indoors, joining Elena Semyonova (2000), Sharika Nelvis (2013, 2014) and Erin Farmer (2017) and the first to do so multiple times since Nelvis in 2013 and 2014.
