JONESBORO, Ark. (11/8/23) – Arkansas State women’s golf head coach M.J. Desbiens Shaw announced Wednesday that local standout Caroline Hughes has signed her National Letter of Intent to join the program for the 2024-25 season.
“What a great day for the women’s golf team and the city of Jonesboro for signing one of our own,” said Desbiens Shaw. “We are thrilled to have Caroline joining our Red Wolves family next year. She brings a ton of golf experience and a lot of athleticism as a multi-sport athlete in high school. We could not be more excited about her future at Arkansas State.”
A four-time All-State selection and product of Jonesboro High School, Hughes was the 2020 5A State Champion. She finished runner-up in the 2021 6A State Championship, eighth in 2022 6A State Championship and fifth at the 6A State Championship this season. She turned in a low round of 69 and averaged 73 for the season.
On the Arkansas State Golf Association (ASGA) circuit, Hughes was the individual medalist at the Northwest Arkansas Junior Championship played at Paradise Valley Athletic Club. She played in seven events last season over the summer of 2023 and finished inside the top-10 in all seven, including the medalist honors. She had a runner-up finish at the ASGA Junior Four-Ball Championship and third-place finish at the Chuck Morton Junior Memorial Championship.
A multi-sport athlete, Hughes was an All-State selection in softball and volleyball. She was named Jonesboro High School Outstanding Athlete of the Year and Scholar Athlete of the Year each of the last two seasons.
