JONESBORO, Ark. (7/13/23) – Arkansas State’s track and field teams not only pride themselves for success in competition, but also in the classroom.
That paid off Thursday, as both the men’s and women’s squads earned All-Academic Team acclaim with cumulative GPAs of 3.0 or higher, along with 11 athletes garnering All-Academic Individual honors.
The Red Wolves were one of just four Sun Belt men’s teams on the list and one of nine women’s squads.
In order to qualify, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, while student-athletes must hold a GPA of at least 3.25 and finish inside the top 96 in any championship individual event, indoors and outdoors combined.
A-State’s women’s program compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.46, while the men qualified with a mark of 3.12.
Individually, 11 athletes – six women and five men – received All-Academic honors.
On the women’s side, Camryn Newton-Smith received all-academic laurels for the fourth consecutive year, while Jonae Cook received all-academic laurels for the second straight year. Lauren Beauchamp (second) and Pauline Meyer (second) have also now earned multiple all-academic honors and were joined by honorees Hannah Morris and Jaybe Shufelberger.
For the men, Bradley Jelmert earned the honor for the third year in a row. Patryk Baran, Hannes Fahl, Aimar Palma Simo and Jacob Tracy accompanied Jelmert on the list of honorees.
