BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (4/1/23) – Another stellar weekend concluded Saturday for the Arkansas State track and field teams, which totaled 18 top-five results and six event titles on the final day of the UAB Invite.
On the weekend, A-State athletes combined for 29 top-five finishes and 10 event victories.
Tyra Nabors moved into a tie for eighth in school history in the 100-meter hurdles, winning the event with a time of 13.82. She later placed second in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing in 1:05.04.
Evangelynn Harris and Selase Sampram claimed the top two spots in the women’s discus throw, with Harris tossing a season-best 49.06m (160-11) and Sampram hurling a career-best 47.42m (155-7).
Sampram then launched a throw of 15.61m (51-2.75) to win the women’s shot put, setting a facility record and moving into a tie for third in school history. Harris placed third with a mark of 14.00m (45-11.25) and Izzy Daines finished 12th with a throw of 10.34m (33-11.25).
Jacob Tracy finished runner-up in the men’s discus, uncorking a throw of 54.57m (179-0) that stands eighth in school history. Willem Coertzen followed in third place with a season-best mark of 48.95m (160-7). Patryk Baran finished eighth with a throw of 38.52m (126-4) and Colby Eddowes placed 15th with a toss of 30.79m (101-0).
Coertzen and Tracy later took first and second, respectively, in the men’s shot put, with Coertzen tossing a facility-record 16.85m (55-3.5). Tracy recorded a mark of 16.74m (54-11.25) in his runner-up finish.
In the women’s high jump, Sydney Lane was one of four Red Wolves in the top five, clearing a season-best 1.66m (5-5.25) to win. Megan Knowling tied for second with a height of 1.63m (5-4.25) while Ashley Guadamuz and Bella Coscetti placed fourth and fifth, respectively, with clearances of 1.60 (5-3.0) and 1.55m (5-1.0).
In the women’s pole vault, Coscetti earned a runner-up finish and was the top collegian with a career-best clearance of 3.66m (12-0.0).
Jermie Walker won the men’s 400 meters, clocking a time of 49.36, while Handre Jonker ran an outdoor-best 50.97 in an eighth-place finish.
Carly Strong finished fourth in the women’s 100 meters with a time of 12.24, with AJ Allen running a time of 12.41 to place seventh. In the men’s 100 meters, Eddowes and Baran finished seventh and eighth, respectively, with times of 10.82 and 10.86.
Strong added another top-five result in the women’s 200 meters, running a career-best 25.37 to place fourth, while Daines crossed in 27.24 to finish 22nd. In the men’s 200 meters, Eddowes placed seventh with a time of 21.94 ahead of Baran (12th, 22.78), Bradley Miler (15th, 22.97) and Steffan Mallory (16th, 23.02).
Hannah McLaughlin ran a personal-best time of 2:33.16 in the women’s 800 meters, placing 13th overall in the event.
