SEATTLE/LUBBOCK, Texas (1/28/23) – All records must be on alert when the Arkansas State track and field teams compete.
That was true on Saturday as the Red Wolves concluded a weekend that saw five school records and three Sun Belt Conference records fall. A-State athletes combined to post 19 marks inside the program’s indoor top-10 or improve a previous mark, including 11 coming on Saturday.
A pair of women’s distance records fell at the UW Invitational in Seattle on Saturday in the mile and 3000 meters. Rahel Broemmel broke the school record in the women’s mile, finishing in 4:48.61. Later in the day, Pauline Meyer broke her own school record in the 3000 meters by nearly 20 seconds, finishing with a time of 9:13.96. Kayla Wade followed in 9:37.60 with the No. 2 time in the event, while Jaybe Shufelberger’s time of 9:51.23 ranks sixth.
Jacob Pyeatt clocked a time of 8:08.19 in the men’s 3000 meters to move up to second in school history, while Grayson Young finished in 8:20.72 to rank seventh all-time.
Hannes Fahl moved into the top 10 in the men’s 800 meters, finishing in 1:50.12 – the third-best time in the event in school history – with a fourth-place finish.
Willem Coertzen and Jacob Tracy registered a 1-2 finish in the men’s shot put at Texas Tech, both recording career bests. Coertzen won with a throw of 17.57m (57-7.75) to slide up to fourth in school history, while Jacob Tracy improved his career-best mark with a mark of 16.82m (55-2.25).
Selase Sampram posted the fifth-best shot put mark in school history, placing seventh with a toss of 15.02m (49-3.5). Evangelynn Harris recorded a season-best throw of 15.13m (50-4.5) to place sixth.
In the sprints, Jonae Cook ran another career best, this time in the 200 meters, with a time of 23.99. Freshmen Myles Thomas (21.88) and Danarrion Ard (22.32) also clocked collegiate bests in the 200.

The Red Wolves return to action next week in a pair of meets – Friday and Saturday at the Washburn Open in Topeka, Kan., and Sunday at the Jaguar Invitational in Birmingham, Ala.
