    LOUISVILLE, Ky. (1/26/24) – Izzy Daines finished third in the pentathlon on Friday to highlight a strong first day of action for the Arkansas State track and field teams at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational.

    The Australian junior totaled 3,599 points across the five events to move into eighth in program history in the event. Daines recorded career-best marks in the high jump (1.67m) and 800 meters (2:25.05) while notching season-best performances in the 60-meter hurdles (9.08) and shot put (10.02m).

    Colby Eddowes finished the first day of the heptathlon with 3,231 points, sitting second in the overall standings with three phases remaining. Alden Wetzel is currently 11th with 2,559 points in his first collegiate heptathlon.

    Spencer Taylor won the men’s 400 meters with a personal-best time of 48.37, while Handre Jonker placed fifth with a career-best 49.44. Taylor also placed fourth in the 200 meters, crossing in a collegiate-best 21.79. He was one of four Red Wolves in the top 15, ahead of Kenyon Parker (7th-22.21), Josh Jones (10th-22.39) and Mehki Hoo (14th-22.57).

    Dawson Mayberry clocked a time of 8:21.83 to rank ninth in school history, placing 14th behind Jacob Pyeatt’s 12th-place mark of 8:18.37. In the women’s 3000 meters, Cadence Lapp finished eighth with a time of 9:57.91.

    Cheyenne Melvin narrowly missed breaking her own school record in the 800 meters, placing fourth with a time of 2:08.74.

    Bella Coscetti recorded a personal-best mark for the second week in a row in the women’s pole vault, clearing 3.83m (12-6.75) to finish fourth.

    Nyaluet Diew hurled a collegiate-best 16.17m (53-0.75) to place 10th in the women’s weight throw, while Michelle Ogbemudia recorded a top throw of 15.77m (51-9.0) to finish 15th. Liya Guy also notched a personal-best mark, throwing the implement 12.54m (41-1.75).

    In the women’s long jump, Alexis Taylor placed third with a mark of 5.67m (18-7.25) while Madison Holloway jumped 5.52m (18-1.5) to place seventh. Matthew Williams leaped 6.70m (21-11.75) to finish 10th in the men’s event.
