OXFORD, Miss. (4/8/23) – Arkansas State track and field accounted for 11 individual bests and a top-10 relay mark on Saturday at the Joe Walker Invite.
Will Glass moved up to a tie for fourth in program history in the 110-meter hurdles, winning the event with a mark of 13.75. Tyra Nabors placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles, crossing in 13.71 to tie for sixth in school history. Nabors later placed sixth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.42.
Elizabeth Martin and Cash Kunkel captured the women’s and men’s 5000 meters, respectively. Martin improved to seventh in school history with a time of 17:09.09 while Kunkel moved to eighth as one of four Red Wolves among the top five finishers. Rylan Brown ran a career-best 14:46.04 to finish second, while Hannes Fahl and Coleman Wilson placed third and fifth.
In the women’s 1500 meters, Pauline Meyer took the top spot, improving her previous career best mark with a finish in 4:23.99. Kayla Wade placed 10th with a time of 4:37.89, with Cadence Lapp running a collegiate-best 4:41.78 to place 14th. Anna Hunter (20th – 4:46.50), Maggie Hunter (28th – 4:51.11) and Emma Hurlbut (36th – 5:02.39) followed behind Lapp.
Lasse Funck won the men’s 800 meters and moved into the all-time top 10, crossing the finish in 1:50.30 to rank ninth in school history. Rahel Broemmel also recorded another all-time top-10 mark, placing seventh with a time of 2:11.58 in the women’s 800 that is sixth in A-State outdoor history.
Earlier in the day, Kunkel placed sixth in the men’s 1500 meters with a time of 3:55.09. Grayson Young finished seventh, crossing in 3:55.51, while Noah McMurtrey (11th – 3:56.99), Dawson Mayberry (15th – 3:59.30) and Andrew Mason (30th – 4:10.18) also competed.
A-State’s men’s 4×100-meter relay squad placed second, combining for a time of 40.27 that is fifth in school history. In the women’s relay, the Scarlet and Black finished fourth with a time of 46.99.
Sydney Lane and Megan Knowling tied for sixth in the women’s high jump, clearing 1.57m (5-1.75), while Avery Shell placed eighth in the women’s pole vault with a height of 3.72m (12-2.5). Bella Coscetti vaulted 3.37m (11-0.75) to place 17th, with Ashley Guadamuz following in 19th with a clearance of 3.17m (10-4.75).
Willem Coertzen notched a seventh-place finish in the men’s shot put, launching a throw of 17.04m (55-11.0). Selase Sampram hurled the discus 43.44m (142-6) to place 17th.
In the men’s 400 meters, Steffan Mallory finished in 51.47 to place 24th while Bradley Miller followed in 28th with a time of 52.88. Grashawn Clark placed 34th in the men’s 100 meters, clocking a time of 11.51, with Carly Strong placing 31st in the women’s race with a mark of 12.31.
