A-State Track and Field Awarded For Academic Success

July 26, 2018

JONESBORO, Ark. (7/26/18) – The Arkansas State men’s and women’s track and field teams were honored Thursday by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for their academic success during the 2018 indoor and outdoor season.

Heinrich Herbst, Itamar Levi and Cristian Ravar Ladislau earned All-Academic honors for the men’s team while Hannah Dunderdale and Babette Vandeput represented the women’s side. The A-State women’s team also earned honors as an All-Academic Team.

In order to qualify as an individual, an athlete must have earned a 3.25 GPA or higher, and rank in the top 96 in an indoor event or on a top-48 indoor relay team or compete at an NCAA Outdoor preliminary. For a team to qualify for All-Academic honors, the team must have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher and be competitive at the national meets.

Herbst advanced to the NCAA West Region Preliminary in the 800-meter run finishing 25th. Levi and Ravar Ladislau each represented the Red Wolves at the NCAA Outdoor Championships with Ravar Ladislau placing 15th in the hammer throw and Levi taking 22nd in shot put. Levi also advanced to the NCAA Indoor Championships, placing 15th.

Dunderdale ranked inside the top-75 in the pentathlon with a season-best score of 3,750 points. She took second place at the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships in the pentathlon while placing third at the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships in the heptathlon. Vandeput had a strong freshman campaign that saw her advance to the NCAA West Region Prelim for a 23rd place finish in discus throw.

The A-State women’s program finished the year with a 3.29 GPA to earn the All-Academic Team distinction.
