JONESBORO, Ark. (11/29/23) – Arkansas State women’s tennis head coach Sujay Lama announced Wednesday that highly-rated Spain product Carla Muro Castellvi has signed her National Letter of Intent to join the Red Wolves beginning in the fall of 2024.
“We are delighted to have Carla join us for fall of 2024,” said Lama. “She is a winner on and off the court. What impresses us most about Carla is her ability to problem solve, stay calm and find a way to win. She checks all the boxes with her passion for the game, high character and incredible academics. Carla will be an impact player and person for our tennis program the moment she steps on campus.”
Castellvi holds a UTR of 8.73 in singles and a 9.29 UTR in doubles. She was recently ranked No. 89 in Spain’s Women’s Open National Rankings and maintained a top-20 ranking among her age group. She was part of a doubles championship and a singles finalist at ITF J30 Silla. She was the individual champion in two events on the Marca National Tour and a finalist in three events on the TTK Warriors National Tour. She was a semifinalist at the 2022 and 2023 Catalonian Championships.
At the U16 level, she was a semifinalist at Tennis Europe, quarterfinalist at the Rafael Nadal Tour and the Mutua Madrid Open. She won the singles regional championship each of the last three seasons and two regional doubles titles over the last three years.
“I’ve chosen Arkansas State University because Coach Sujay and Coach Marshall share the same passion for tennis as I do,” said Castellvi. “I’m confident that their dedication will help me unleash my full potential, both on and off the court. I’m looking forward to starting this new stage, working alongside them and the team and giving my best to elevate the team to new heights. The welcoming and familiar atmosphere, along with the amazing girls on the team, makes me excited for the experiences ahead.”
Castellvi joins spring 2024 additions Anna Grigoreva and Ariadna Fernández as signees since Lama took over in August.
