LAWRENCE, Kan. (10/11/23) – The Arkansas State women’s tennis team returns to action this week at the ITA Central Regional Championships at the Jayhawk Tennis Center in Rock Chalk Park from October 12-16.
The four-day event starts on Oct. 12 at 9 a.m. and wraps up on Oct. 16. Doubles and singles winners of the tournament, along with other finalists, will qualify for the ITA National Fall Championships on Nov. 2-5. A full schedule of events for the ITA Central Region Championships is available here.
“Our team has really worked hard the last three weeks and made improvements in all aspects of their games, including the mental part,” said A-State head coach Sujay Lama. “It’s going to be fun trying to implement the things we have worked on since our last competition. It will be fun competing hard and pushing our limits.”
Qualifying rounds begins on Thursday and the main draw gets underway Friday in Lawrence, Kan. Rebecca Brody will play in the main draw of singles while the doubles tandem of Sarah Millard and Nejla Zukic play in the main draw of doubles.
“We have been extremely disciplined as a team and have shown up every day ready to work hard,” said Zukic. “I am very proud of this group for consistently pushing through our toughest days. I think we can make a really good run in Kansas. Regionals are a tough tournament, but so are we. I’m excited to see what we can do out there!”
