PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. (4/26/23) – The Arkansas State women’s tennis team saw its 2022-23 season come to a close with a 4-0 loss to Coastal Carolina Wednesday at the Sun Belt Conference Women’s Tennis Championship at the Peachtree City Tennis Center.
A-State (2-18) dropped the doubles point with Coastal Carolina (17-7) picking up wins on courts two and three. Abigail Thurmer and Anna Borovinskaya fell 6-2 on court three and the Chanticleers clinched the point defeating Yasmine Humbert and Rebecca Brody 6-1 on court two. Sarah Millard and Sofia Vdovychenko trailed 5-1 on court one when the point was clinched.
Jesse Hollins downed Vdovychenko 6-1, 6-1 on court four to give the Chanticleers a 2-0 lead in the match and Anna Babayan defeated Brody 6-3, 6-0 to put Coastal Carolina on the brink 3-0. Humbert came up short 6-3, 6-2 on court three as the Chanticleers clinched the 4-0 victory. In unfinished matches, Millard dropped the first set 6-3, but led 3-2 in the second while Borovinskaya lost a first set tiebreak 7-2 and Thurmer trailed 7-5, 2-0.
