STARKVILLE, Miss. (1/20/23) – Opening the spring schedule Friday at Mississippi State, the Arkansas State women’s tennis team dropped the contest to the Bulldogs 7-0 at the Rula Tennis Pavilion.
Mississippi State (2-0) swept the doubles point to take the 1-0 lead and then won each singles match to defeat A-State (0-1) 7-0. Rebecca Brody and Sarah Millard were swept 6-0 on court one by Emmanouela Antonaki and Gia Cohen while Emily Surcey and Sydney Hrehor swept the A-State pair of Yasmine Humbert and Abigail Thurmer 6-0 on court three to clinch the doubles point. Chloe Cirotte and Dharani Niroshan led Anna Borovinskaya and Sofia Vodvychenko 5-2 at the time the doubles point was clinched.
Millard dropped her contest at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-3 to Antonaki while Brody was defeated 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles by Cirotte. Making her A-State debut, Borovinskaya fell 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3 singles to Rizzolo while Thurmer came up short at No. 4 singles against Niroshan 6-3, 6-1. Surcey defeated Vdovychenko 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 singles and Humbert came up short at No. 6 singles 6-3, 6-4 against Bemisderfer.
A-State continues the spring schedule Saturday indoors at the Jonesboro Country Club with a doubleheader against Arkansas. The first match will begin at 11:00 a.m. with the second match scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at JCC.
