JONESBORO, Ark. (3/7/25) – Arkansas State baseball (4-9, 0-0 SBC) recorded three home runs for the second consecutive game en route to a 9-2 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff (0-13, 0-0 SWAC) on Friday afternoon at Tomlinson Stadium-Slayton Family Field.
Collin Maloney (1-2) made his fourth start of the season and the longest of his career, surrendering two runs (none earned) on four hits while striking out five over 8.0 innings pitched. Tyler Weimer was the lone reliever for the Red Wolves, throwing a single hitless inning to close the contest.
Cross Jumper, Daedrick Cail, and Jake Henry Williams were responsible for the round-trippers, while Jumper finished the contest with a team-high three hits in five at bats. The last time A-State hit three home runs in back-to-back contests occurred last season against Murray State (March 5, 2024) and Eastern Illinois (March 9, 2024).
Cail and Jumper tied for the team lead in RBIs, evenly splitting six.
Jumper launched a two-run, 364-foot, homer to left field in the bottom of the first to score Wil French and claim a 2-0 advantage. After retiring the Golden Lions in order to start the second, A-State put together the highest-scoring inning of the season in the bottom frame.
Ashton Quiller tripled to left center and recorded his first career RBI while French scored on a knock from Cason Tollett two at bats later to make it 4-0 Red Wolves. With two runners on and two outs, Cail capped the inning with a 350-foot shot to left field and extended the lead to seven.
Williams added another run via the longest homer of the day in the next inning, sending a 381-foot missile to left center.
The Golden Lions broke the shutout in the fifth when a fielding error allowed a runner to reach home uncontested. A 2-4-1 rundown allowed the Scarlet and Black to end the frame, but another runner reached during the chase and made the score 8-2.
A-State took one of those runs back in the bottom of the sixth after Jumper tallied his third RBI of the day on a double to left center. Neither side added a hit after the frame, allowing the Red Wolves to claim their largest margin of victory in 2025.
Maloney earned the win while Kenny Fabian (0-4) took the loss.
