JONESBORO, Ark. (2/2/24) – The Arkansas State women’s tennis picked up its second consecutive victory with a 7-0 sweep of Lindenwood Friday at the RidgePointe Tennis Center.
This marks the first season with multiple sweeps since 2018 and first time since 2011 with multiple 7-0 sweeps for the A-State program.
“We had some good energy off of last weekend and it was exciting to come back and play at home,” Yasmine Humbert said. “We had a great start with the doubles point and that energy carried over to doubles. Everybody fought hard and played really well. It’s exciting to see how everyone is developing as a player and the depth this team has shown.”
A-State (3-2) took the doubles point over Lindenwood (0-3) with wins on court two and three clinching the tally. Playing doubles together for the first time this season, Emiliya Margolin and Ariadna Fernandez won on court three 6-1. Moments later, the duo of Rebecca Brody and Abigail Thurmer won 6-2 on court two to clinch the doubles point. The pair of Yasmine Humbert and Sarah Millard were tied 4-4 on court one when the point was clinched.
Straight sets wins in the first three courts to play singles clinched the victory for the Red Wolves. Brody topped Paola Garcia 6-4, 6-1 on court three and Millard followed with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Fabiana Labrador on court one. Humbert used a second set tiebreak to clinch the match with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-2). Margolin added a 6-1, 6-3 win over Sarah Ben Aba on court five and a 6-1, 6-3 win by Fernandez on court four against Juliana Kulcynski put the Red Wolves up 6-0. After dropping the first set, Thurmer rallied back for a 4-6, 6-2, 10-4 triumph to set the final 7-0.
A-State returns to the RidgePointe Tennis Center on Sunday for a 10:00 a.m. contest against Butler. Admission is FREE.
