BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (9/28/18) – The Arkansas State women’s tennis team opened competition at the Samford Hidden Dual Friday afternoon with a win in both singles and doubles play on the day.
In singles play, the Red Wolves faced off against UAB where Shannon O’Brien took defeated Dominika Harbalova 6-2, 6-2. In other action, Shelby King lost to Alex Schipakina in tightly contested match 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, while Anita Detlava was defeated by Sophie Dodds 7-6, 6-4. Berta Masdevall Masip lost to Megan Bertrands 6-0, 6-1 while Amelia Guevremont was downed by Jana Hecking 6-0, 6-1.
In doubles’ play the Red Wolves took on Samford where King and O’Brien teamed up to beat Elsa Pool and Natalia De Ugarte 6-4. Detlava and Masdevall-Masip lost to Holly Horsfall and Cindy Oset 7-5, while Guevremont team with UAB’s Hanna Sisirak and lost to Grace Jennings and Mary Katherine Lewis 6-3.
The hidden dual will continue Saturday morning.
