JONESBORO, Ark. (6/23/23) – Arkansas State men’s golf head coach Mike Hagen announced Friday that Cameron University product Chris Somerfield has joined the Red Wolves for the 2023-24 season.
“We’re excited to add Chris as the final piece of our 2023 recruiting class,” said Hagen. “He had a great freshman campaign for Cameron University that routinely is one of the better DII programs with a competitive schedule. This will assist him with the transition to A-State and we look forward to his success as a Red Wolf.”
Somerfield joins A-State after helping Cameron University rank 13th in the final Division II Golfstat rankings. He posted seven top-20 finishes during his freshman season. The Brisbane, Australia native posted two runner-up finishes individually in consecutive weeks at the Oak Tree Invitational and King-Alfred Invitational. Somerfield, named the Lone Star Conference Freshman of the Year, finished the campaign with a scoring average of 72.15 with 10 of his 18 rounds under par in the spring semester.
Somerfield joins Hugo Ronnberg (Bellevue University, Jake Lile (The Woodlands HS) and Anthony De Schutter (Garden City CC) as new additions to the 2023-24 roster.
