BOONE, N.C. (3/11/23) – Opening Sun Belt Conference play, the Arkansas State women’s tennis team was swept 4-0 at Appalachian State Saturday morning.
A-State (1-6, 0-1) dropped the doubles point 2-0 to open the match. Sarah Millard and Sofia Vdovychenko were swept 6-0 at No. 1 doubles and Yasmine Humbert and Abigail Thurmer trailed 3-2 before falling 6-2 at No. 3 doubles. Rebecca Brody and Anna Borovinskaya led 5-3 at No. 2 doubles when the Mountaineers clinched the doubles point.
Appalachian State (4-4, 1-0) gained a 2-0 advantage in the match with Maggie Pate downing Thurmer 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. The Mountaineers lead grew to 3-0 with Helena Jansen topping Millard 6-3, 6-0 on court one. After dropping the opening set 6-1, Brody battled to a 5-5 tie in the second set, but fell 7-5 in the set to clinch the match for Appalachian State.
