JONESBORO, Ark. (4/8/23) – The Arkansas State women’s tennis team came up short 4-0 in a Sun Belt Conference match against Coastal Carolina Saturday at the A-State Tennis Courts.
A-State (1-13, 0-7 Sun Belt) dropped the doubles point to face an early deficit. Anna Borovinskaya and Abigail Thurmer were swept 6-0 on court three and Sarah Millard and Sofia Vdovychenko fell 6-1 on court one to clinch the doubles point for Coastal Carolina (15-5, 7-1 Sun Belt). Rebecca Brody and Yasmine Humbert led 4-3 on court two when the point was clinched.
In singles action, Megan Hopton downed Vdovychenko 6-3, 6-1 on court three to give the Chanticleers a 2-0 lead. Borovinskaya came up short 6-2, 6-2 on court six against Lilie Steryous. Tatum Burger clinched the match for Coastal Carolina with a 6-2, 6-2 win on court four over Thurmer. Humbert and Kata Foldeak were deadlocked on court five with Humbert taking the first set 6-2 and Foldeak the second set 6-4. On court one, Millard dropped the opening set 7-5, but led Victo De Samucewicz 1-0 in the second set. Brody trailed 6-1, 4-3 on court two against Anna Babyan.
