HARRISONBURG, Va. (4/2/23) – Closing out a weekend road trip in Virginia, the Arkansas State women’s tennis team was swept 7-0 at James Madison Sunday.
A-State (1-11, 0-6 Sun Belt) fell behind with James Madison (11-5, 7-0 Sun Belt) claiming the doubles point. Anna Borovinskaya and Abigail Thurmer were defeated 6-1 on court three and Rebecca Brody and Yasmine Humbert also fell by a 6-1 tally on court two to clinch the point. Sarah Millard and Sofia Vdovychenko trailed 5-3 on court one when JMU clinched the doubles point.
Thurmer was swept in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, on court three by Daniela Voloh to give JMU the 2-0 lead. Brody came up short on court two 6-0, 6-3, to Daria Afanasyeva and Millard dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision on court one to Kylie Moulin to clinch the match for JMU. Playing out the remaining matches, Borovinskaya fell 6-2, 6-2, on court six to Hayley Glen and Vdovychenko fell in a hard-fough 6-2, 7-5 decision on court four against Ines Oliveira. Humbert forced a second set tiebreak on court five against Alexandra Prduente, but dropped the contest 6-1, 7-6 (7-2).
The Red Wolves visit SEMO on Wednesday for a 2 p.m. contest before returning home for league matches against Coastal Carolina (April 7) and Georgia Southern (April 9) this weekend.
