JONESBORO, Ark. (9/1/23) – Another season with high expectations gets started for the Arkansas State cross country teams, who will compete under the lights at the Memphis Twilight Classic Saturday night.
The meet will be held at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex in Memphis and hosted by Christian Brothers University. A-State is set to compete in the women’s 5K at 9:20 p.m., with the men’s 4-mile run set for a 10 p.m. start. Live results will be available here.
3 THINGS TO KNOW:
1. HIGH HOPES: But it’s not hope, it’s an expectation that Arkansas State competes for Sun Belt Conference titles in cross country. The Red Wolves were picked to sweep the league in the preseason coaches poll unveiled last week. Both squads garnered six first-place votes en route to being named the preseason favorites. A-State’s men are looking to win their third straight league crown, while the women hope to reclaim the top spot after a runner-up finish last year.
2. NEW FACES: Newcomers abound for both squads, including 12 for the women and three for the men.
3. REGIONAL RANKINGS: In Tuesday’s preseason regional rankings, Arkansas State’s men were picked fifth in the South Central Region, while the women were voted sixth.
NEXT UP
After a week off of competition, Arkansas State will return to the Bluff City for the Rhodes Invitational, held at Shelby Farms Park on Saturday, Sept. 16.
