SPARTANBURG, S.C, (11/3/18) – The Arkansas State women’s tennis team collected five victories after the first day of competition at the Wofford Invite.
Anita Detlava began the day with a win in her first match of the day with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Wofford’s Cassidy Hicks. Berta Masdevall Masip earned a 6-0, 6-0 win over Western Carolina’s Savannah Taranto 6-0, 6-0. Amelia Guevremont earned a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Radford’s Katey Fruehauf, while Shelby King also came away with a 6-2, 6-1 in the second match of her draw.
In doubles’ competition, Shannon O’Brien and King advanced to the second round of their bracket with a 6-0 victory over Wofford’s Kay Kulska and Lilie Steryous. In other competition, Detlava and Masdevall Masip lost to Emory’s Yasabel Gonzales-Rico and Jessica Fatemi 6-4.
King began her day in singles’ action with a 6-1, 6-2 loss to East Tennessee’s Laylo Bakhodirova 6-1, 6-2, while Detlava lost her second round to Emory’s Daniela Lopez 1-6, 6-2, 10-3.
O’Brien lost to Western Carolina’s Jacy Smith 6-0, 6-1 and then fell to Brenau’s Peeraya Charoensirisutthikul 5-7, 6-4, 10-5, while Masdevall Masip her first match of the day to Gardner-Webb’s Valentine Limauge 1-6, 6-2, 10-7.
Guevremont began her day with a 6-1, 5-7, 10-6 setback to Kulska, while Allison Quammen lost her only match of the day to West Virginia State’s Nika Tadic 6-1, 2-6, 10-5.
Final round continues Sunday morning.
